Counting Kicks During Pregnancy
-
Every year in the U.S., approximately 24,000 babies are born still, according to the CDC.
-
In Nevada, one out of every 148 pregnancies ends in stillbirth.3
-
Families are 10 times more likely to lose a baby to stillbirth than they are to SIDS.
-
A 32% reduction in Nevada's stillbirth rate would save 75 babies per year.
Join us to help save Nevada babies.
Health Plan of Nevada is asking you to team up with us, and Count the Kicks®, to reduce the number of stillbirths in our area.
Count the Kicks is the evidence-based campaign of Healthy Birth Day, Inc., a nonprofit organization founded by five women who each experienced a stillbirth or infant death. In the first 10 years of the campaign in Iowa, the state’s stillbirth rate decreased nearly 32% while the rest of the country remained relatively stagnant.1 This proven campaign brings the kind of success we want to see in Nevada. With your help, we can continue to spread the word in our state and potentially save 75 babies every year.2
Research shows a change in a baby’s movements could be the earliest, and sometimes only, indication that something may be wrong with a pregnancy. It’s a simple and free way to self-monitor and improve the chance of delivering a healthy baby, and by doing so, reduce stillbirth rates, which occur in one out of every 148 pregnancies in Nevada, according to the CDC.3 During this time when expectant parents may be seeing their provider less frequently, Count the Kicks acts as an early warning system for parents and providers to determine when a baby may be in distress.
